Solibri BIM Base IDS Extension

Solibri BIM Base IDS Extension

Do you recognize this? You think you have delivered a good BIM model, but in reality, it turns out not to be the case. For example, there are still generic components present in the model, the floors have not been named according to the agreement, or elements have been assigned to an incorrect floor. Frustrating, right? And especially unnecessary. Because with the BIM Basis ILS check, you can be sure of the quality of a BIM model. We are happy to explain how it works.

To be a reliable partner, it is crucial to check models thoroughly before they are shipped. An essential step in the process that unfortunately tends to be forgotten. To make this step easier - and because we believe that BIM should be accessible to everyone - we have developed especially for Solibri Site and Office users the 'Indispensable BIM base IDS check,' based on the BIM base IDS version 2. The English version will be published soon. This accessible model check ensures that a quality BIM model is within reach for everyone. So that you, too, are a reliable partner in the process.

Quality within reach

By using the 'BIM base IDS check essentials', model control does not become a black box, but everyone can easily understand the actual quality of the BIM model. The large amount of information that a model is rich in is made visual by the transparent way of filtering and is therefore easy to fathom. For example, are all components linked to the correct floor, and do they have the expected entity? This is essential information because later in the process, others will continue to work with this information. In the 'iBIM base IDS check essentials,' the data in the model per BIM base IDS chapter is quickly made clear, and the model is checked for the information's presence, quality, and structure. These visual filters also make it possible to quickly get to the bottom of a model and make it your own.

Data overview

The requested information in the BIM base IDS is also related to each other, and by using stretching sheets in Solibri, this information is arranged side by side. From this, connections can then be drawn between the different requested chapters in the BIM base IDS. For example, a sand-lime wall will be an expected entity 'Wall' with a consistent and precise name, type, material, and coding. This combination makes it immediately clear what this form should represent in the model and ensures that other parties in the later process can effectively reuse the information in the model.

Testing automatically

Not all chapters are checked using visual filters. Missing the minimum standard property sets - linked to components - and finding duplicates & intersections in a model are often easier to test with Solibri Office based on an automated test. This shows, with priorities, which information is still missing in the model and where possible connections in the model are not going well. This also enables a reliable budget to be made based on the BIM model at a later stage, for example.

Digital collaboration

BIM is already a first step in digital construction. Using the digital file format .bcf (BIM Collaboration Format) for communicating duplicates found or missing data sets, collaboration becomes even more accessible. The comments are collected in Solibri and communicated to the modeler as a task in .bcf. These tasks are opened in the modeling software, where the modeler gets access to the problem found and the parts belonging to it. So, no more endless emails back and forth or phone calls about finding the correct position, but everything at hand in one go. Handy!

Tips from Based

  • With the 'BIM base IDS check essentials', it is made very easy to receive a good-quality model quickly. So, download the 'BIM base IDS check essentialsextension in the Solibri Solution Center now. If the extension is not yet available, please request it from the administrator of your account.
  • To make it even easier, we also have a 'placemat' with the various steps to check the model. Download the placemat with instructions here.
  • Be sure of the quality of a model and do the check before using one!
