5 steps to digital building

5 steps to digital building

In recent years, it has become clear: digital building is the future. The developments are now following in rapid succession. Organisations are therefore becoming increasingly aware of the urgency to digitise. On the one hand, to be able to respond to the demand from the market and, on the other, to increase the quality, efficiency and productivity of their own organisation. Yet, sometimes there is a lack of knowledge and skills to effectively apply and implement digital building in the organisation.

Based is the right party to help your organisation further in this digital transformation. We are driven by technology, but act from the conviction that digitisation is more than that. That is why we also focus on the strategic, process-oriented and human side of an organisation. We do not only think in terms of tools and functionality, but also in terms of implementation, process and added value.

The 5-step plan from Based

With the four focus areas shown in the image below, we have been supporting and guiding various organisations in their digital transition for years. This has led to the conclusion that the transition mainly consists of five basic steps. This has ultimately led to Based's 5-step plan. This plan describes the steps necessary for a successful implementation of digital building for organisations that are still at the beginning of this development.

Step 1. Vision & Strategy

First, we analyze your organisation. During a workshop, we work with you towards a clear vision of digital building within your organisation. Based on the vision, a strategy is determined, in which short-, medium- and long-term goals are set.

Step 2. Preparation

With a maturity measurement, we gain insight into the knowledge level and a good estimate can be made of the learning capacity of your organisation. This determines, among other things, the effort that must be made and the speed at which developments can take place.

Once we have determined the plan of approach together, the necessary preparations will be made. The change to digital building often requires a change in the IT landscape. Because we have an independent role, we are able to map the current IT landscape together with you and advise you on the most suitable software packages and online platforms.

These new techniques also require a change in roles and responsibilities. It is therefore important that the roles, and corresponding competencies, are defined together. These changes demand a lot from your people. That is why it is important that everyone stays on board. We therefore pay extra attention to the support and guidance of the people in your organisation.

Step 3. Pilot project

During the preparations we already look, together with you, for a suitable pilot project. It is important that the project offers sufficient space for the necessary development and learning time on the basis of the short and medium-term objectives set. The size and complexity of the project should be in line with this.

Once the pilot project has been determined, we set the ambition level for the pilot project on the basis of the contractual requirements and the development objectives. In a workshop, we take the project team through the agreements and processes to be made. These agreements and processes are then jointly determined in a kick-off.

Based on the agreements made and the needs of the organisation, we support the project team intensively in the development and practical application of the technological tools. In doing so, we never lose sight of the business ambitions and objectives.

Step 4. Evaluation

We discuss the progress together in evaluation sessions. If necessary, adjustments will be made and the guidance and support will be adjusted accordingly.

Step 5. Implementation

The five-step plan is the prelude to a broad implementation of digital building in your organisation. That is why during the pilot project, we already make a start with standardisation and the collection of 'lessons learned'.

At the end of the pilot project, another maturity measurement is carried out, which provides insight into the developments made. In combination with the results of the evaluation sessions, we determine the follow-up trajectory together with you. This follow-up trajectory will mainly focus on the broad roll-out of digital building within the organisation and the realisation of the long-term objectives. This includes setting up a training plan, where we can provide classroom training to bring your organisation's knowledge level up to the required level.
