Municipality of Amsterdam

The municipality of Amsterdam works from the Traffic & Public Space department together with the engineering office of Amsterdam on a joint BIM program. Based supports the municipality in retrieving and defining the information needs of this department. These retrieved information requirements are then translated by Based into an IDM and data structure (OTL). These contain the information of multiple processes and stakeholders within the municipality. Based on the IDM and OTL, the information deliveries are requested, automatically checked and processed in the systems.

Because the information needs of Amsterdam are requested in a linked data structure, it is possible to automatically check the information delivery made by the contractor for the correct information. The existing situation can be extracted from the system for maintenance projects and delivered to the contractor according to the OTL. He only has to update the new status. This makes it easier to exchange, validate and process the correct information via open standards.

Based executes at the municipality of Amsterdam among others:

  • Retrieving the information needs from the different departments and bringing them together in one strategy and data structure
  • Developing the data structure in an OTL (Object Type Library)
  • Setting up different use cases to test the data structure at various places in the information landscape
  • Collaboration with provinces and other municipalities for knowledge sharing based on open standards
